Game Mechanics

Fifth Edition Dnd

Ability Score Increases: Your Dexterity increases by two, and your Intelligence increases by one.

Size: Small Size

Speed: 30 ft.

Superior Darkvision: Maruinae are used to sewers and other dark areas, because of this you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 120 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Sunlight Sensitivity: While in sunlight, the Maruinae has disadvantage on attack rolls, as well as on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.

Stealthy: Maruinae have proficiency with the Stealth skill.

Keen Smell: You have advantage on Perception checks that rely on smell.

Nimble: You can move through the space of any creature that is a size larger than your own.

Swarm: Maruinae are used to fighting and living with their allies. Due to this when within five feet of an ally and their opponent, the enemy is treated as being flanked by the Maruinae giving them advantage on all attack rolls.

Scurry: When you take the dash action, you gain an extra 10 ft to your move that round. For the remainder of the round all attacks you make are made at disadvantage. Languages: You can speak, read, and write Common.


Ability Score Increases: Maruinae are agile and clever, yet physically weak. They gain +2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence, and –2 Strength.

Type: Maruinae are humanoids with the Maruinae subtype.

Size: Maruinae are Small and thus gain a +1 size bonus to their AC, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –1 penalty on combat maneuver checks and to their CMD, and a +4 size bonus on Stealth checks.

Speed (Average): Despite their small size they are quick on their feet 30 ft.

Languages: Maruinae begin play speaking Common. Maruinae with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: Aklo, Draconic, Dwarven, Gnoll, Gnome, Goblin, Halfling, Orc, and Undercommon. See the Linguistics skill page for more information about these languages.

Tinker: Maruinae gain a +2 racial bonus on Craft (alchemy), Perception, and Use Magic Device checks.

Rodent Empathy: Maruinae gain a +4 racial bonus on Handle Animal checks made to influence rodents.

Swarming: Maruinae are used to living and fighting communally, and are adept at swarming foes for their own gain and their foes' detriment. Up to two Maruinae can share the same square at the same time. If two Maruinae in the same square attack the same foe, they are considered to be flanking that foe as if they were in two opposite squares.

Darkvision: Maruinae can see perfectly in the dark up to 60 feet.
